Introduction
Gisela Hamacher aged 53, born in
Germany and living in Australia is the first woman to become NAUI certified in
the Standard Dress Diving specialty, June 2010.
NAUI is the first sport diving agency to certify divers in standard dress
diving. The first course was given at Portland, Victoria, Australia in June 2009
for members of the Historical Diving Society. (See: Diving Times and Classic

At an age when most women are
taking it easy, triathlete Gisela attended the second helmet certification
course ever given in sport diving. She obtained her basic qualification in an
historic Siebe Gorman diving helmet which had been used in the construction of
the Portland Harbour, a rural Australian port. She completed the requirements
for her course in shallow water of 4 meters, and then joined with friends in the
advanced course. She donned a TOA commercial diving helmet and made a night dive
to 13 meters on a stage crane.
Gisela is a member of the Historical Diving Society in Australia and an advanced
sport SCUBA diver. She is a runner, cyclist, swimmer and all around athlete with
numerous medals for sporting events. She has advanced accounting degrees and
works as a freelance book keeper and financial advisor in Melbourne, Australia.
