DEEP DIVING
AND
SUBMARINE OPERATIONS

A MANUAL FOR DEEP SEA DIVERS
AND COMPRESSED AIR WORKERS

By
ROBERT H.DAVIS
Kt.,Hon.D.Sc.Birmiingham University FRSA

Formally Principal and Managing Director of
Siebe Gorman & Company Ltd

Deep Diving and Submarine Operations was written by Sir RH Davis and was first published in the early 20th Century. Originally written as a manual, the book was enlarged through successive editions culminating in the Eighth edition . This Edition was printed in 1995 as the Ninth edition to celebrate the 175 th anniversary of the Company. Unlike the earlier previous editions the ninth edition was published in 2 volumes. Each volume has over 300 pages and in this format the volumes are easy to handle as the previous volumes were susceptible to spine damage being made up of some 690 pages. Part1 deals particularly with the current state of diving, equipment and technique and there are many pictures and illustrations.
Part 2 carries many stories and illustrations of salvage and rescue as well as technical description and drawings of ancient diving equipment. The appendix carries the history of the company and explains about the development of the submarine escape equipment and underwater television.
The 2 volumes are numbered 1238 and are part of a limited edition of 1500. Both editions appear to be unread and are contained in an outer sleeve which also bears the limited edition number. The earlier editions may be more sought after by collectors but for the enthusiasts this is a more practical option, the price too is a lot cheaper. For anyone who owns an eighth edition or earlier edition this is a very practical option to risking damaging your older edition. There is minimal bumping and the books and sleeve are in very good condition. The blue covers are embossed with gold lettering.

The cost of the boxed set is £149.00 plus postage, and payment may be made by paypal or cheque drawn on a UK bank.

HELMETS
OF
THE DEEP

By LEON G LYONS

The Definitive collector’s book about The World’s Diving Helmets, Helmets of the Deep written by Leon Lyons of Florida
was written from research from all around The World beginning in 1978. Since its publication in the early 1990s there
hasn’t been another book published which is such an authoritative reference book on the subject of Diving helmets.
There are over 350 pages written in English, French and German with hundreds of photos of Diving helmets from all over the World.
Many pages have 3 colour photos with descriptions and where the photo was taken or as Leon puts it last place of residence.

The hard backed book of coffee table style has a red cover with gold embossed
lettering with the outline of a diving helmet. There is a full colour dust jacket.

The chapters are organised by countries of manufacture and then loosely set out in chronological order. Some helmets are in pristine condition whist some are in working order condition just as Leon found them.

There are pictures of ancient helmets made from copper and brass and some pictures of more recent helmets too, but all are fascinating to see and read about.

The book is in good but read condition with no pages missing or damaged. There is one small bump on the front corner of the cover (see picture) and the dust jacket shows signs of wear with some small tears. The book, overall, is in good condition with no damage to the binding.

Postage will vary according to the owner’s location. We have seen these books fetch huge sums of money on internet auctions. These books do come up for sale sometimes but are rarely found in bookshops as most are in the hands of private collectors.
The book is currently in our possession so you may buy with total confidence. On request we will be pleased to send further photographs
