The Dräger company from Lübeck Germany was very famous for its air helmets and DM 20 and DM 40 equipment. You can learn all about that in the Historical Section of this site. In 1976 Dräger introduced a new lightweight helmet to the market. The DM 200.

Dräger DM 200/1

The DM 200 is made of fiberglass. It has a bonnet an a 12 bolt corselet. Volume and weight on this helmet is smaller than it's predecessors. The helmet has a large hinged front window and small top window. The exhaust valve is positioned on the right side of the helmet. Telephone and air inlet are situated on the back in a similar way to the old "Bubikopf-helmets". The corselet features devices to hook up (small) chest and back weights. The diver manually adjusts the amount of air pumped down to him from the surface with a "hand-valve". This valve is situated in the divers hip-area. This is similar to the operation of Mark V gear ! On this type the diver wears no front and back weights. They are replaced with a bail-out system on the back and a dive-regulator on the front. The design of this dive-regulator is based upon the surface dive regulator that we explained in the Modern Air Supply Section. It works about the same but this time it is submerged. However, the diver can adjust the flow of air at any time if he likes.
