Born, William Augustus O’Gorman in Limerick, Ireland he was related by marriage to Augustus Siebe . Son of a sea captain he came to England and formed the partnership with Henry Siebe in 1868 and two years later became a founder member of the Siebe & Gorman Company. William Gorman had a daughter and a son, Augustus Gorman his son worked in the company for a short period. Of the two partners Gorman was more commercially inclined than his partner Henry Siebe.

William Augustus Gorman died in 1904 at the age of 70.
